Barbacoa Pork

Slow roasted and marinated Barbacoa Pork Picnic Roast.

The Best Barbacoa Pork

Usually, when I hit a grand slam, I’m either running the bases or shoveling food in my face at Denny’s. Which one of those two moments do you think this is? If you guessed Denny’s, you’re half right. Only, this time, I’m stuffing my face with this amazing Barbacoa Pork recipe because it’s a winner.

Barbacoa Pork Marinade

In case you don’t know, Barbacoa is a recipe that was developed years ago in the Caribbean and it’s where the word barbecue derives. It’s usually prepared with beef meat, from the head. Sometimes goat or lamb is substituted for more gaminess and flavor(I think that’s a made up word, “Gaminess?” idk).

In this recipe, I use a Pork Picnic Roast(shoulder), and I used the Barbacoa Beef recipe that I filmed and posted a couple of years ago and transposed it for pork by adding Cilantro and Orange juice to the ingredients. That might sound crazy but it works, good I might add. And, Carnitas has Orange juice in it so, don’t even sweat it. Anyway, I only compare the two because of the mad similarities; they’re both pork recipes, with similar ingredients, cooked for long hours at a time and they both make excellent tacos.

My favorite taco condiments, onion, cilantro and lime.

Barbacoa Pork Tacos

In my opinion, the best tacos are fried tacos and this Barbacoa Pork recipe is no exception. I do occasionally double stack corn tortilla’s and eat my tacos soft but, nothing beats a little hot oil and some salt, to crisp up and flavor a boring tortilla. Then, I just keep it real with some simple condiments; onion, cilantro and lime. No need for salsa because the fresh flavor and spice is already in each bite. If you want to check out my Pico De Gallo recipe, however, I’m not going to stop you.

Pinsoon Air Fryer Oven

Pinsoon 10 Quart Air Fryer with 8 cooking presets, Rotisserie and adjustable time and temp.

The Best Air Fryer

This Pinsoon Air Fryer has got to be one of the best kitchen appliances I have ever seen. As a younger man, I lived in and out of Hotel’s for years, because of the work I was traveling for, and I wish I had something this compact and practical I could’ve traveled with back then. This machine doesn’t just air fry, it acts like a mini oven or toaster oven. Plus it has a rotisserie motor in it with a spit rod for meat and a basket attachment for more containment. I tested this thing out, with everything I could throw at it, and these were my results.

Pinsoon Air Fryer Recipes and Presets

One of the things I really like about this Air Fryer is the control panel. It’s got a Digital face with smart touch functions including presets, time and temperature adjustment, oven light, rotisserie rotation and a start button combination with the power switch. It’s very user friendly and it comes with a book with over 30 recipes they recommend. Everything I cooked in the video, I cycled back to back cooking just like I would do in a restaurant. I just kept running different options, just like different orders of food coming in, and kept the heat going and it handled everything I threw at it, with precision.

If you’re looking for a simple lifestyle change but you don’t want to change what you’re eating, this might be the answer for you. It’s healthier eating because it cooks the fat off the food instead of baking or deep frying more back in. Grilled Ham & Cheese Sandwich

Grilled Ham & Cheese with Black Forest Ham, Swiss and Mozzarella cheese.

The Best Ham & Cheese

I bet you didn’t think a Ham & Cheese sandwich couldn’t get any better but, I’m telling you, it can and it’s the little things that make all the difference. Really it’s all about personal preference but if you choose the right kind of bread, the right kind of ham and cheese, you can really make something special with just a few other trade secrets that I’m going to show you in this simple little recipe.

Black Forest Ham, thinly sliced from my local deli.

Black Forest Ham & Cheese

When you make a Ham & Cheese sandwich, do you get all serious about what you put in it or do you just quickly throw something together so you can eat? Personally, I’m not a big fan of ham, which is funny considering how much I love, just about anything, pork. I chose Black Forest Ham for this recipe but I think it would be just as good with about anything you decided to use as long as it wasn’t watered down and packed with unnatural alternative preservatives other than curing salt. Just kidding. I could probably make this sandwich with spam and be completely happy with it so, it’s up to you.

Mixed Mozzarella and Swiss Cheese.

Cheese in your Ham & Cheese

There are so many different kinds of Cheese in this world that they have to write books to describe them all. I know that some people like a sharp Ham & Cheese and there are some that like a Swiss. In this recipe I chose to go with Mozzarella, to make it more cheesey, and Swiss cheese for more flavor. I really think the two balance each other out.

Another thing I like to do is season the buttered bread. You can choose white, wheat, rye or even sour dough bread, if you prefer but I highly recommend using an all purpose seasoning, to season the sliced buttered bread, before grilling. All purpose seasonings usually have garlic and onion powders in them and a few earthy herbs as well so, they’re perfect to add more flavor. Technically, it’s now a garlic toast Grilled Ham & Cheese but I’m not too sure that anyone would think to google the name of that sandwich.
