Green Beans with Garlic Parmesan and Bacon

The Best Green Beans

If you’re looking for a recipe that will make everyone love Green Beans, look no further. This dish is crisp, it is vibrant and most of all full of flavor. It’s got all of my favorite ingredients, including one secret ingredient that really takes this vegetable to the next level. With out it, I wouldn’t even bother making this recipe, it makes that big of a difference. What’s the secret ingredient? Lemon!

Fresh Green Beans

Don’t try to make this recipe using a bag of frozen or canned Green Beans, please, I implore you. If that’s all you have, don’t use this recipe because it won’t even come close to how good it would be using fresh ingredients. Grow them, buy them, I don’t care how you get them, just be sure to use them straight off the vine. You can also add other fresh veggies like red onion and tomatoes.

In this recipe, I blanch the green beans with out an ice water bath. I do this for two reasons. A cold water shock just prevents the beans from cooking any further but, in this recipe, you don’t want to do that. This is not a dish that is served cold. Once the bacon is cooked I continue to saute the beans in the bacon grease, anyway. So the cold shock is not necessary.

Puff Pancakes

The Best Puff Pancakes

Puff Pancakes are amazing and I fell in love with them from the start.  My family, however, always called them Popeye Pancakes.  I don’t really know why.  All I remember is being very young when my older sister came home with the recipe, from the sleep over she had just had at a girlfriends slumber party.  She raved about them and my siblings and I have been eating them ever since.  I know that most folks call them German Puff Pancakes and that others like to cook them Dutch Oven style but, other than that, I can’t tell you the history behind them because honestly, I’m sorry to say, I’m not really interested. :-p

Baking Puff Pancakes

One of the things you should know about Puff Pancakes is that they shrink down, considerably.  Clearly they get their name from the amount of poof the pancake gets when it puffs up during the baking but, after only a minute out of the oven, the size is drastically cuts in half.  So if you’re wondering what the hell happened to your Puff Pancakes when they deflate, like a flat tire, understand that this is completely normal.

Additions for Puff Pancakes

The great thing about these pancakes is that you can add just about anything you want to them, including fruit or vegetable toppings.  You can even bake them into the Puff Pancakes themselves, if you prefer.  Other options can include Meats like ham, sausage or bacon.  Personally, I usually just prepare mine the way I show you how to do it in the Video Recipe Tutorial, only I usually make a larger batch for the whole family, like the picture above in the Casserole dish.  And this recipe is large enough to bake in a 9×13 Casserole dish, btw.  I like to cut it up into 8 equal servings and serve it with Maple Syrup or my Homemade Berry Syrup.

The Best Bacon Fried Shrimp

When I first had Bacon Fried Shrimp, all I could do was melt into myself with pleasure.   I remember my head tilting back with my eyes closed as that bacon and shrimp exploded with flavor with each bite.  Oh… and did I mention the Pepper Jack Cheese?  Wow!  Each one of these prawns is stuffed with cheese before they’re wrapped with an entire piece of bacon. Then, they are each seasoned with black ground pepper before they’re fried to perfection.

Grilling Bacon Fried Shrimp

This dish may be called “Bacon Fried Shrimp,” but don’t feel limited by the frying pan. These savory, bacon-wrapped shrimp shine just as brightly on the grill, making them a surefire hit at barbecues and parties. Want to mix things up? You can even bake them if that’s more your style. No matter how you cook them, the key is simple: ensure the bacon is cooked all the way through for maximum flavor and safety.

And for an extra kick, I whipped up a Spicy Mayo Dipping Sauce that takes these shrimp to the next level. It’s creamy, tangy, and packs a flavor punch that perfectly complements the crispy, juicy shrimp. Trust me, you’re going to love it!
