Roasted Chestnuts Recipe

Youtube Chestnuts

The Best Roasted Chestnuts

These Chestnuts are lightly pan tossed and roasted until they’re ready to peel, then sauteed in butter and seasoned to perfection.  This recipe is finished off in the oven for just a few more minutes until these nuts are golden brown.  They are very nutty in flavor, lightly salty and sweet with Cinnamon and Ground Clove, .  If that sounds like something you’re interested in, then this Roasted Chestnut recipe is for you.

Chestnuts are in Season

One of the biggest reasons why Roasted Chestnuts are a Holiday Classic is because, in the month of December, they are in season.  That’s right, these little beauties make their debut early in the month and farmers go to town.  Even though I put together a fun little “how to” tutorial to make and roast these your self, you’d be doing your self a favor if you headed over to YouTube and watched some of the stories behind local farmers and people that grew up with Chestnut trees right in their own backyards.  For me, it was really nice to a see some of the history behind the nut that has inspired traditions and Christmas songs around the world.

Hot Chocolate with Marshmallow Cream

The Best Hot Chocolate

Here’s a Hot Chocolate recipe you’ll want to bookmark for sure, because there’s nothing better than a nice cup of hot cocoa, during the cold winter month of December.  And this recipe has got everything you’d expect any great recipe to have, including a creamy Marshmallow taste and a nice airy froth.  It’s very easy to make and it’s perfect for this Holiday Season.

Conveniant Store Hot Chocolate

I came up with this idea when I was getting Hot Chocolate, for my kids, at a local gas station.  You know how they have those motorized dispensers with different flavors; mint, pumpkin spice and toasted marshmallow.  It was the Marshmallow that caught my eye.  Not that I wouldn’t enjoy the other flavors too, it’s just what my kids chose and what I always enjoyed.  After we rang out, I realized it was something I needed to put together because $2.50 for an 8 oz. cup just isn’t savvy.

Hot Chocolate Ingredients:

4 tbsp Cocoa Powder, unsweetened
4 tbsp Sugar
1/8 tsp Salt
2 cups Milk
1/2 tsp Vanilla

Toasted Marshmallow
1/4 cup French Vanilla Coffee Creamer
1/4 cup Marshmallows

Update: Running low on milk, I’ve since cut the milk in half and replaced that half with water and to my surprise, I thought the recipe tasted even better.  So, it might be something you’d like to consider.  Just be sure to watch the short Hot Chocolate video tutorial and I’ll show exactly how to make this recipe.

French Press Coffee

In this recipe I’m using a French Press to derive every last drop of flavor for every cup of Coffee.  These are very easy to use and fairly inexpensive.  In fact the one I’m using here is made by Kona.  It was sent to me recently to demonstrate it’s use so I can give one away for free to one of you that likes, comments and shares this recipe.  I will choose one lucky winner this next week.  All you have to do is help me get the word out about this recipe and Poor Man’s Gourmet Kitchen.  This is my way of saying thank you for all of your support.  And remember you can follow me on facebook, Pinterest, YouTube and Instagram!
