King Crab Legs Baked, Grilled or Steamed

Delicious King Crab Legs

Out of all seafood, I’ve got to admit that King Crab Legs are my all time favorite thing to eat. I love Snow Crab and Dungeoness Crab too but nothing, to me, is so satisfying as rewarding your self with a hefty sized piece of crab meat dipped in garlic butter. The flavor is so rich and sweet and it literally does melt in your mouth. The only problem is that they’re usually horribly expensive. I believe, however, that there is a time and place for everything, special occasions like birthdays and holidays have always warranted a place in my heart to splurge a little, even on a budget.

King Crab Legs Market Price

The market price of seafood changes like anything else judging by the supply and demand. The only problem is is that it’s a little bit more unpredictable than, let’s say, beef or cattle because no one really knows how much is actually available. All we can do is judge the market by the previous and current catch recorded by quality control and government observers that keep track of the numbers.

I worked in Alaska, for a time, on a fishing factory trawler so, I know a little bit about how it works. I lived on a 220 ft fishing boat, out at sea, for 3 to 4 months at a time, depending on the fishing season. The difference with crabbing is how much further north they have to go and how much colder it gets. Crabbing is considered to be one of the most dangerous and deadly professions in the world. If you’ve ever caught an episode of Deadliest Catch, you know what I’m talking about.

All things considered, there are many other factors that go into pricing King Crab Legs when they hit the market. I can tell you that the price jumped 3 dollars more per pound, when I decided to film this video, from the previous week. If you want to know how I’ve gotten them cheaper, and I mean 1/3 this cost, check this out.

Frozen King Crab Legs

It’s no secret that when we buy King Crab Legs we’re usually buying them frozen but did you realize that they’ve already even been pre-cooked. So, cooking these up at home really isn’t going to be that difficult because all we need to do is reheat them. They can easily be over cooked, though, so that’s something you should avoid at all costs. Following these simple methods should help you cook your crab perfectly and without complications.

Baked, Grilled or Steamed King Crab Legs

The 3 most common ways to cook and/or reheat King Crab Legs is baked in the oven, barbecued on a grill or, the most popular, steamed in a large pot on a stove top. In this video tutorial, I demonstrate how to do all three with ease and I’ve listed the cooking time and temps, for each process, down below.

King Crab Legs Time and Temperature

Baked: 425° F 15 minutes

Grilled: 400° f 20 minutes

Steamed: 2″ Boiling water 8-10 minutes

The Best Crab Dip

This Crab Dip is great to serve at home, parties or barbecues and it can easily be made, in advance, and kept refrigerated until needed. One of the best things about this dip is that it can be served hot or cold and either way is absolutely delicious. I show you how to prepare both and there’s only a few ingredients so, don’t worry about breaking the bank with grocery shopping.

Crab Meat for Crab Dip

For this Crab Dip recipe, I’m using real crab meat and I get it from a refrigerated can. If you want to save money, this is one way to do it. I bought this 16 oz. can for $13 bucks, which may sound expensive but consider the alternative. A pound of Crab legs is going to cost more for practically half the meat weight because of the shells. This can is solid meat. Savings can be taken a step further, however, if you’re willing to use imitation crab but, in all honesty, it won’t even be close to the same recipe and it absolutely won’t taste the same. If that’s all you have available, though, just make my Seafood and Crab recipe, instead. It’s really good and it’s great served as a dip with crackers.

Hot Baked Crab Dip with Parmesan and a sliced toasted French Baguette.

Cold or Hot Baked Crab Dip

To serve this Crab Dip cold, all you half to do is mix the ingredients and serve. Marinating the ingredients in your refrigerator for a half an hour or over night will improve the flavor but it isn’t necessary. Plus the ingredients are already cold so, it’s really something you can just play by ear.

For a hot baked dip, I just top it off, in an oven safe baking dish, with fresh grated Parmesan cheese and bake in the oven until it’s warm. If I’m serving the dip with a sliced baguette, I usually just toasted the pieces along with the baking of the dip.

FYI, if you drop the sour cream out of this Crab Dip recipe and add a package of wonton wrappers, it makes an excellent filling for fried Crab Rangoon’s.

No Bake Barbecue Baked Beans

The Best Barbecue Baked Beans

If you’re a fan of Barbecue Baked Beans, you’re in for a real treat because this recipe is amazing. Instead of a “from scratch” recipe, I’m backing all the way up to the last recipe I posted, Country Style Barbecue Ribs, and I’m stealing the leftover barbecue sauce to prepare this one. So, instead of adding bacon, which most recipes do, these baked beans have the drippings from country style ribs cooked right into the sauce. Plus, there’s a few other secret ingredients to kick this up even another level and it’s what every good steak house should be serving.

Navy Beans are the prize favorite to make Baked Beans.

Legumes for Barbecue Baked Beans

If you’re wondering what kind of beans to use to make your Barbecue Baked Beans, Navy Beans are the prize favorite. The truth is however, you can use what ever you want. Though white beans are generally more popular in most recipes, you can use kidney or pinto without any problems. If you’re interested in saving some stewing time, you can even purchase canned beans. Doing that will eliminate an entire night of soaking and two hours of simmer.

Stewed Barbecue Baked Beans

If you’re curious why this Barbecue Baked Beans recipe isn’t baked at all, you wouldn’t be the first. Some say that it’s a myth that Baked Beans are actually even baked and that the beans are really stewed more than anything. That suggests that anyone that takes the name literal and bakes there beans instead is wrong, right? Nah, it’s just another efficient way to apply heat. Lot’s of recipes call for grilling, so that they can get that smokey flavor, and that can be a great way to cook them too. So, I think it’s just a matter of personal preference. I simmer mine on the stove out of convenience because it’s easier to just pull the lid and stir than dealing with the ends and outs of the oven.
