Canoe Calzone

Canoe Calzone

Open Faced Calzone

A Canoe Calzone.  Yup, that’s what I’m calling it.  And isn’t the name so fitting.  Sure, maybe this really exists somewhere else and maybe it’s even got another name, but for now, this is how I’ll refer to it.  The truth is, I didn’t come up with it either.  When I sat down and ordered a Calzone off a Menu at a Restaurant here recently, this is how it came, more or less.  And I felt like it was a good idea, minus the Marinara Sauce they served because it really sucked.  But if you want to serve yours with Marinara or Pizza Sauce, more power to ya.  I’m sure your recipe will taste just fine.  But, if you need a Pizza Sauce recipe, I’ve got one for you.  Just CLICK HERE!  Also, if you are needing a Pizza Dough recipe CLICK HERE as well for the original post, because you are going to need one if you’re going to make this Canoe Calzone Recipe.  You can also make one giant calzone by following this recipe.

You really won’t need any other ingredients list to make these Calzones, because you can put anything you want in them.  So I’ll just include the tutorial on how to fold them below.  And I might as well double stack the videos for you so you can see how to make the dough.  It’s an old video, but it’s accurate.  Let me know how you like these Canoe Calzones in the Comments.

Pizza Sauce

Pizza Sauce

The Best Pizza Sauce

Simple ingredients make the best Pizza Sauce and this recipe is no exception.  My teenage daughter, Isabelle, had this recipe memorized when she was only 10, it’s that easy.  But don’t think, for one second, that compromises the flavor.  She had this recipe memorized for a very good reason.  Not only is this sauce easy, it’s the best Pizza Sauce for just about any pizza!

Pizza Sauce not Marinara

I prefer Pizza Sauce over Marinara, any day of the week.  Mostly because I think Marinara is week.  I don’t like how chunky it usually is and the flavor always seems to be a little off.  So I’ll make this Pizza Sauce instead of marinara for dipping Bread sticks, Calzones, Chicken Parmesan or Chicken Marinara.  It might be the “Ghetto” in me but it’s just what I prefer.  The Picture above is my Canoe Calzone recipe.  So you can see my recipes aren’t trashy, nor are my tastes.

Be sure to watch the short video tutorial and I’ll show you exactly how to make this delicious and easy Pizza Sauce.

Pizza Sauce Ingredients:

1 8 oz can Tomato Sauce
1/2 6 oz can Tomato Paste
1/4 tsp Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp Onion Powder
1/2 tsp Black Pepper
1 tbsp Italian Seasoning (Basil, Marjoram, Rosemary, Sage, Thyme)
1 tbsp Dry Oregano
1 tbsp Brown Sugar

Combine all Pizza Sauce ingredients in a Sauce Pan over Low heat and cook for 5 to 10 Minutes.  Then use as a Pizza Sauce or Dipping Sauce for Bread sticks.

How to Make Naan

IMG_1747

Naan Ingredients:

Dough
3 Cups Flour
3/4 cup Milk, warm
1/2 cup Yogurt
1 tsp Sugar
2 tsp Rapid Rise Yeast
1 tsp Salt
1/2 tsp Baking Powder

Rub
2 tbsp Minced garlic
Finely Chopped Coriander leaves
Butter

Mix together all dry ingredients first, then add the yogurt and the milk.  Need the dough for 5 to 10 minutes until it’s smooth.  Then roll into a ball and place in a bowl with a towel over the top and let the dough rise for at least 2 hours.  Once the dough has risen, flatten out the dough to knock out the air and roll into a cylinder shape.  Cut into equal portions starting with the center, cutting in half and in half again until all portions are equal.  Now roll the dough flat into oblong shapes approximately 1/8 of an inch thick.  Heat each one in a pan or on a grill set on Med high for 1 minute then turn, if you want to keep it simple.  Otherwise cook only one side and put garlic and Coriander on the other side and place under a broiler for a minute to a minute and half.  Remove the Naan from the heat and rub with butter and serve warm.
